The goal of the Education committee is to provide quality education to Maine’s massage therapists. The Maine Chapter is very fortunate to have 5 active members on the Education Committee. We meet several times a year, both in person and utilizing tele-conferencing services, to discuss and plan future events.

Currently, the committee works together to offer members three training events every year;  the Annual Membership Meeting held in February, which allows us to provide great education and to conduct Chapter business; the spring training event, usually held in May, then the grand finale, the Annual Retreat, held in late October. A lot of planning goes into the Retreat from deciding on the speakers, choosing the meals, to coordinating hotel rooms for the members. Our committee is pleased to put this together every year.

We are delighted to announce that with new technology, members will now be able to register online for our events. Not only will we be able to register, but members will also have the capacity to pay with credit cards as well. We have waited for some time for this convenience, and it will make things much easier for those involved with the event. Another benefit of having the trainings online is that the Chapter saves money in printing costs.  It’s much cheaper to mail a postcard directing you to the website, than it is to mail a folded flyer to everyone.

What goes into the decision to have a particular speaker, or a particular subject? It’s YOU, the member, that plays a key role in that decision. Whenever we ask you to fill out those evaluations, we get suggestions for training events. Sometimes we end up having the same speaker come back, other times; we get suggestions for something new and interesting. So, keep those comments coming so the committee can continue to provide first-rate education.

We ask two things from you–that you read the Chapter Newsletter, that always informs you of upcoming events, and that you notify a member of the Education Committee (listed below) if you have not received an informational post card. For those who do not have a computer or choose not to use that technology, printed flyers will be on hand.

2012 Annual Meeting

Our annual membership meeting was a huge success!  The snow held off and the turn-out was great.  Our training session was conducted by our New Hampshire neighbor, Jeff Mahadeen, who presented Postural Assessment and Myofascial Mobilization of the Hip.  Here are a few photos of the day…
